Greg Dick, BSc'93
Recipient of the 2023 Dr. Ivan Smith Award
Greg Dick is a pillar of Western Mustangs football and the alumni community. As a leader with great passion for sport, Greg has built effective, respectful and inclusive environments throughout his career. His positive influence on the Western football community and through various leadership roles at the Canadian Football League (CFL) is profound. As the 2023 recipient of the Dr. Ivan Smith Award, Greg is truly deserving of Western Alumni’s highest honour.
During his time as a defensive back for the Western Mustangs, Greg received awards for sportsmanship and achievement as a key member of the team, including his role as captain in 1993. Following graduation, Greg built a successful career and remained involved with Western as a dedicated volunteer.
Greg’s ongoing engagement and philanthropy of Western Mustangs is greatly valued by the team’s students, coaches, volunteers and fellow alumni. For the last twenty-five years, he has organized the annual football golf tournament that has raised more than four-hundred thousand dollars. He has also contributed to the sustained engagement and involvement of football alumni and Western and the Mustangs.
Greg’s long career in the financial sector has been a significant asset to Western as he served on Western’s Board of Governors, as well as the Audit Committee, Senior Policy and Operations Committee and the Property Finance Committee. Greg has also served as a board member for the Alumni Association since 2018. Through these roles, he has ensured careful and thoughtful management of resources and financial stability for the university.
Greg brought his expertise to the North Toronto Basketball Association Rep Program as head coach for nearly ten years. He has held several positions at the CFL including Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. He is currently the Chief Football Operations Officer and the head of Grey Cup and Events. As part of his current role, he oversees the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum, ensuring the preservation of football history and achievements in Canada.
Greg’s is a true team player who makes a difference through volunteerism and leadership. Greg is known as someone who represents the best of Western – living his life to enable those around him to do their best.
