Message From The President

First, a truly massive thank you to all of the athletic alumni out there who helped make the Adopt A Mustang campaign for 2022 a resounding success! Over $175,000 was raised in support of the 46 men’s and women’s sports that the WMAA helps to support. This money will go a long way in funding team needs including equipment, travel support and the athletic scholarships that our coaches have committed to over the past few years so that our best athletes can focus on dedicating the appropriate time to athletic excellence, and hopefully some Purple success! You are all to be congratulated.

The WMAA was proud to support this campaign through our $100,000 matching funds program.

Another way we help support our rich history of athletic excellence is through our annual Sports Hall of Fame Dinner, and 2022 will be a banner year. Alongside the men’s rugby teams, the women’s basketball teams and the individual awards recipients for 2022, I want to highlight that we will recognize Darwin Semotiuk and Mary Riezebos for their lifetime contributions to Western athletics.

As part of the exciting Western Homecoming weekend, our event will take place at RBC Place in downtown London on September 23, 2022. Click here to learn more and buy tickets.

We are thrilled to celebrate with our new inductees, their families and friends and all athletic alumni who can attend.

On Saturday, September 17, we will celebrate the life of Jack Fairs and his tremendous impact on the Western community and around the globe.

It has been another busy year for the WMAA. Our various committees have continued to support athletic excellence at the highest level, and we can’t thank our committee and board members enough for the devotion of their time and effort to continue our success.

There is much to look forward to this fall! I look forward to the Vanier Cup IN LONDON on November 26. Hope to see you there.
