John P. Metras Sports Museum

John

Founded in 1984, the J.P. Metras Sports Museum is home to the history of sports at Western. Located in Alumni Hall, the museum serves to preserve and promote Western's legacy of excellence in athletics. Visitors can learn about the beginnings of sports at Western; championship teams; exceptional athletes, including many who competed internationally; and browse yearbooks. Artifacts, trophies and memorabilia are on display celebrating Mustangs sports.

The museum has been busy over the summer building upon its website at www.metrasmuseum.ca. There, you will find historical sports information, championship teams, individual accolades, and inductees to the Western Mustangs Sports Hall of Fame. New to 2020 are online exhibits featuring material from inside the museum for visitors to access virtually.

Former curator and Mustangs Alumni, Ted Hessel, made it a priority at the museum to collect and digitally preserve as many team photos as possible. Those photos are on the website under the Team Photos section linked at the top of each page. Click there, select your sport and view the team photos and rosters in the collections. Use the Search bar at the top of the list of team photos in a sport to search for a name or year.

The museum is always looking to add to those collections. If you have a team photo that is not on our website, please let us know. Contact information is available at the bottom of the website, or you can email the museum directly at metrasmuseum@gmail.com.
