The Mustangs Athlete Student Council (MASC) is a group of varsity student-athletes that supports the betterment of the Western experience for all Mustangs. We complete our work through several facets including event planning and volunteer service in the community.
This year, MASC formed a new branch called “Mustangs Talk,” focused on promoting wellness and inclusivity for all student-athletes. This expansion of MASC comes after the Student Athlete Mental Health Initiative ceased operations last summer and became integrated in our organization. It has been a very exciting year, with a number of new vice president (VP) positions for the upcoming school year, including a VP Movember and a VP Indigenous Initiatives.
Our inaugural Western Athletics Movember campaign was a success with over $2,000 raised and 700 km moved for men’s physical and mental health. We also saw success with a two-video series where more than 15 teams were featured and were asked their thoughts about mental health. These videos can be found on our @mustangs.talk Instagram page.
We hope to continue to establish MASC as a space where student-athletes can find like-minded individuals within the athletic community to create long-lasting friendships.
