Western at the Olympics

Save the date! – September 24th, 2021

The Western Mustangs Athletic Alumni in joint sponsorship of  - “Western at the Olympics” with the International Centre for Olympic Studies (ICOS), Faculty of Health Sciences is pleased to host it's first annual lecture series. This new annual lecture series will showcase the many achievements of Western Alumni, Western Athletics, and the WMAA.

Some of the primary objectives of the WMAA are to honour our most accomplished athletic alumni and to expand awareness of our organization and new active members. The event will take place at the newly renovated and relocated International Centre for Olympic Studies in Somerville House where it joins into the connection area to Thames Hall. The event will be held during Homecoming Weekend Grand Opening 2021 (Friday, September 24th, 2021). Our inaugural speaker will be Scott Russell!

ICOS Advisory Board Member Scott Russell, CBC Sports, Journalist, BA'80 BEd'82, MA'85  

Scott Russell is a Canadian Screen Award and Gemini Award-winning broadcaster and acclaimed author. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and holds an M.A. in Journalism. Russell is a CBC Sports veteran of more than 25 years and has covered 14 Olympic Games throughout his career. He is a member of the Canadian Olympic Committee's Education Committee, the Ambassador's Council for the Amici camping charity, and the Advisory Panel for the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, and the Public Policy Forum on Value-Based Sport. He is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to sports in Canada.
