Message from Director of Sports & Recreation, Christine Stapleton

This has been an exciting summer for our Mustangs.
Western student-athletes and coaches proudly represented Canada at the FISU World University Games, showcasing both their athletic excellence and the strength of our programs on the international stage. Many of our student-athletes also won medals! I would encourage you to read our full recap: 2025 FISU Games Recap - Western Mustangs Sports
Closer to home, we celebrated a historic achievement as our Men’s Tennis team captured the U SPORTS National Championship, a testament to the dedication and talent of our student-athletes and coaches. Mustangs win 2025 Canadian University Men's Tennis Championship - Western Mustangs Sports
In addition, several of our Mustangs coaches won awards and participated at international events. Check out our @WesternMustangs Facebook or Instagram pages for more information.
As we turn our attention now to the fall season, we are welcoming several new head coaches to our teams this fall, including:

As I write this, it is the second half of August and I can feel the energy across campus ramping up. Football, soccer and rugby all have training camps and pre-season games underway, with regular season games starting just next week.
I look forward to seeing our student-athletes continue to excel both on the field and in the classroom this year.
We have our new peer-to-peer mentorship program continuing for our varsity athletes – this program was developed to support varsity athlete mental health and well-being and trains a minimum of one individual from every varsity team and club on campus supports and more. We also have our new Varsity Lecture Series, which launched last year, hosting monthly talks from sports experts in a variety of fields – psychology, nutrition, wellness, careers and more.
I invite you – our alumni and supporters – to stay connected and follow along with all the latest news, schedules and results at www.westernmustangs.ca. And of course, we hope to see many of you back on campus for Homecoming (HOCO) September 26-28—a time to celebrate our purple pride and the lifelong community we share as Mustangs.
Friday, September 26 we will be honouring the extraordinary achievements of our athletic alumni at the annual Western Mustangs Sports Hall of Fame Dinner. Tickets are on sale now.
And on Saturday, September 27 we have our always exciting Homecoming Football Game at 1pm vs the McMaster Marauders. Tickets are on sale now and they always sell out. I would encourage you to get yours soon!
