Rotman reappointed as chair of the Canada Council for the Arts

Joseph L. Rotman, BA'57, LLD'09, has been reappointed as chair of the Canada Council for the Arts for a five-year term. Rotman, who serves as Western’s chancellor, was first appointed to the post in 2008.
“I am very pleased to announce that Mr. Rotman has agreed to continue serving with distinction as Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts,” said Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on Monday, July 29. “His leadership and wealth of experience in corporate and public governance are an asset to the council.”
Rotman is chair of Roy-L Capital Corporation, a private family investment company. He is also currently the chair of Grand Challenges Canada and of the Ontario Brain Institute.
Rotman, an Officer of the Order of Canada, holds a master of commerce degree from the University of Toronto and a bachelor of arts from Western.
The Canada Council for the Arts is a federal Crown corporation created by an Act of Parliament in 1957. The role of the Council is to foster and promote the study and enjoyment of the arts and the production of artistic works.
