Former Dean of Law, alumnus honoured

Peter P. Mercer, LLB'76, president of Ramapo College of New Jersey, and former Dean of Western Law, is one of two recipients of the 2014 West Bergen Mental Healthcare’s Distinguished Service Award. The symbol of excellence, which is given each year to exception community leaders, will be presented to Bergen at West Bergen's 36th annual brunch on Sunday, March 16. Mercer became Ramapo College’s fourth president in 2005.

Previously, he had served as dean of the law school, vice president and general counsel at the University of Western Ontario. He was also a member of the faculty at Calgary, Detroit and Windsor universities. In 2005, Rotary International named Mercer a Paul Harris Fellow. He has received Teacher of the Year awards from the University of Calgary and the University of Western Ontario and the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Association of University Business Officers.
