I want to share what I have shared with my daughter, Katie who is a first year student at Western (2024). 1. Breathe. We are all operating with elevated anxiety and stress and deep breathing helps immediately calm the nervous system. It's one easy thing you can do NOW. 2. Get outside. It gives you perspective and resets your focus and makes you breathe! 3. Think long term. Focus on what you want and don't worry about when you get there. You will overcome these challenges and you will be stronger for them. 4. Hold on to good moments. A beautiful day. A laugh with a friend. A great meal. Milk it for all it's worth and fill your brain with them. 5. Know you are loved. Be yourself. You are capable and valued. You are loved no matter what. Finally, you got this! Now, exhale...
