Mark Daley, BSc’99, PhD’03, began a five-year appointment in 2023 as Western’s chief AI officer, believed to be the first such position at any North American university. An AI researcher and respected leader in neural computation, Mark is developing and implementing a university-wide AI strategy that supports Western’s academic mission and research objectives.

Mark has been a Western professor since 2004 and has held cross-appointments in several departments, including computer science, mathematics, statistics and actuarial sciences, biology, electrical and computer engineering, and epidemiology and biostatistics.
