HOMECOMING 2020 TO TAKE PLACE VIRTUALLY
Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, Western’s Homecoming 2020, scheduled for the weekend of October 16-18, will take place virtually.
“Homecoming is one of the University’s most cherished traditions, with more than 10,000 alumni returning to campus each year to reconnect and reminisce,” says David Simmonds, BA’07, Homecoming Chair. “While we can’t be together in person this year, planning is underway to provide exciting virtual programming that same weekend. This investment in continuing to strengthen our global alumni community will provide an opportunity for more alumni than ever to participate.”
Details on Homecoming 2020 virtual activities will be announced this summer. For those celebrating reunion milestones this year, Western will also provide an opportunity to celebrate in person at a future Homecoming.
“Looking ahead to 2021, our alumni will be eager to return to campus and celebrate together in person, and we will make Homecoming 2021 bigger and better than ever,” says Tyler Forkes, Western’s Executive Director (Alumni Relations). “After consultation with our alumni and student leaders, Homecoming 2021 will take place September 24 to 26. This date increases the likelihood of good weather when our alumni are on campus and allows for increased participation from our future alumni – our students – the heart of our University.”
"Western students want to be a part of Homecoming, a tradition that represents our school's strong community, and spirit." says Bardia Jalayer, University Students’ Council President (2019-2020). "Hosting Homecoming 2021 in September, with better weather and well in advance of mid-term exams, will allow our students to be involved and participate in programs and activities alongside their classmates, while connecting with alumni."
