Western's Alumni Association, formally established in 1949, is a non-profit organization led by an all-alumni volunteer board of directors. The board serves as an advisory body to the department of alumni relations which fosters connections between Western and the global alumni network.
Western’s 382,000+ alumni represent one of the largest alumni bases of any Canadian university. Board members help deliver a strong and engaged alumni experience.

Board members
Nominees must be graduates of Western University.
The Alumni Association Board believes strongly in equity, diversity and inclusion and the importance of representation in our alumni community.
Role of a volunteer
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to the mission, vision and objectives of the association.
- Upholds good governance practices and fosters a culture of integrity and ethical behaviour.
- Participates in both short and long-term strategic planning for the association.
- Works to strengthen connections between alumni and the association.
- Serves as an ambassador and encourages fellow alumni to engage in the advancement of the university and its alumni community.
- Provides thoughtful feedback to support the continuous improvement of the association’s programs and activities.
Expectations of an Alumni Board member
- Exhibits strong commitment to the board and supports its decisions.
- Attends at least three of the four annual board meetings.
- Participates in university and alumni functions as required and whenever possible.
- Serves on at least one committee of the association.
- Demonstrates conduct that reflects the best interests of the association.
- Declares any conflicts of interest in accordance with association policies.

Application / nomination
Candidates for the board may either apply or be nominated by a fellow Western graduate. Prior to nominating a candidate, the nominator should first confirm with the candidate that they are willing to accept the nomination. Deadline for submissions is Thursday, January 29, 2026.
