Veteran AP and award-winning Canadian journalist Kathy Gannon joined the FIMS community for the Winter 2025 term as the Asper Fellow. Over the next several months she will strive to restore the reputation of independent news reporting.

A long-time supporter of FIMS in multiple ways, MLIS alumnus Cabot Yu is both a monthly and annual donor, helping to support student finances through scholarships and priority FIMS research areas like the new Starling Centre for Just Technologies and Just Societies. In November, MACS student Aalanna Rusnak was recognized with other student athletes as a Scholar Athlete for maintaining an 80% average or higher, while excelling on the ice for Western's figure skating team during the 2023/2024 season. Associate Dean Susan Knabe was onhand to celebrate the achievement.
