Genaro Guardado Cartagena lost his father, two siblings and many more relatives and friends to violence unleashed by government forces during the Salvadoran Civil War. He survived three massacres during the 12-year period that claimed the lives of more than 75,000 people between 1979 and 1992.

FIMS has a new Development Officer
Susannah Gergich is the new FIMS Development Officer. She began her appointment in October 2023 and is getting settled in her new role and learning more about Western and FIMS. A winding career path has brought her to Western and she is excited to be able to help support students and the exceptional learning and research that takes place in FIMS.
