Mission Statement
The BAWA association is dedicated to nurturing an inclusive environment free from anti-Black racism. This commitment is exemplified through the presentation of the 13 Action Items to Western University, the strategic guidance of BAWA’s Leadership Committee, and advising the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors on Black alumni engagement opportunities.
These initiatives underscore our collective dedication to inclusivity, amplifying Black voices, addressing anti-Black racism, and championing equity both within and beyond the university. Together, we aim to create a lasting legacy of leadership, representation, and collective success that resonates throughout the Western University community and beyond. Our mission is to cultivate an inclusive, resilient, and thriving alumni community that empowers future generations while driving meaningful and enduring change.
Fundraising initiative: BAWA Black Student Bursary
Alumni are encouraged to support the BAWA Black Student Bursary, which is awarded annually to undergraduate students in any year of any program who demonstrate financial need and self-identify as Black. Online financial assistance applications are available through Student Center and must be submitted by October 31st of each year. This bursary was established by a generous gift from BAWA and friends of Western.
